Mailing Tubes
Mailing tubes are used to mail posters, blueprints, maps, cans, cylinders and small parts. Mailing tubes are generally made of spiral-wound cardboard or kraft paper. Some mailing tubes may have multiple layers to better contain the item being mailed. For example, some of mailing tubes are made with an outer tube of kraft paper and an inner tube of cardboard. These tubes are often used for blueprints.
The most common way of sealing mailing tubes is using removable plastic end inserts, which seal the tube while also providing support. Quick-crimp ends, which fold the tube in on itself, are another common option.
Cardboard tubes with aluminum interiors are also used for shipment of medical specimens and for a number of other purposes. These tubes must meet strict US Postal regulations.
